The NHS Long term plan is bringing about many changes to address the crisis in general practice. From indemnity schemes, increased capacity for wider workforce such as prescribing powers for allied health professionals and the introduction of primary care networks. However, pressures are still mounting on general practice with demand and workload, due to GPs leaving and retiring from the professional and slow recruitment at the other end of the scale.
One Health Lewisham is working to support GP recruitment and retention in general practice through GP fellowships, portfolio roles and training. We want to attract more GPs back into the profession and remove the barriers that prevent them from doing so. We have been developing tailored solutions to keep different groups of GPs in the workforce including those approaching the end of their career and those with family commitments.
On 25 September, we are hosting the ‘GP Debate – Tackling the GP Crisis in Lewisham’, a panel discussion event to explore solutions and issues affecting GPs in our borough.
Dr Clare Gerada, Joint Chair of the NHS Assembly and Medical Director at the Practitioners health Programme will deliver the key note speech and chair the panel of leading professionals in General Practice.
Tickets are free but there are limited spaces to attend this event, advanced booking is advised. To register your place, please click here.
