Lewisham’s ASK NHS GP app has been shortlisted for a HSJ Value Award 2019, Primary Care Initiative of the Year.
From concept to delivery, One Health Lewisham has devised and developed the ASK NHS GP app to help Lewisham patients.
In collaboration with NHS Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the app has been designed and implemented to support patients registered with a Lewisham GP to get easier access to health services. It makes it easier for patients to get the right service at the right time. The app enables patients that need to see a GP, get access quickly and conveniently through their mobile phones or smart devices. It is free to download and features an interactive symptom checker which triages patients in a clinically safe way, using NICE accredited evidence based protocol to the most appropriate onward care (self-care, GP appointment, A & E) within an appropriate timescale.
The ASK NHS GP app has been configured with GP appointment systems, so patients are able to directly book an appointment be it urgent or routine without having to call the practice. In addition, a transcript of the questions and answers is sent to the patient’s practice helping to make the consultation more efficient and effective for both the patient and the GP.
Dr Prad Velayuthan, CEO One Health Lewisham said, “One Health Lewisham is delighted to be shortlisted for a HSJ Value Award. This is great recognition for all our hard work in partnership with Sensely and Lewisham CCG of our efforts to improve primary care services in our borough. We’re really proud of the app which is empowering patients in Lewisham to take control of their health and improve access to their GP.”
Adam Odessky, CEO and Co-founder of Sensely, said “We’re grateful to be working with One Health Lewisham, the ability to partner directly with active GPs has provided a unique opportunity design technology that fits seamlessly into existing practice workflows, which has greatly enhanced the overall ability of ASK NHS GP to meet the ambitious goals of the CCG and its patients.”
Dr Jacky McLeod, Clinical Lead at NHS Lewisham CCG said: “We believe that this innovation will really transform the way people in Lewisham access health advice and care, and reinforce our efforts to help them have the confidence to self-care where appropriate, seek advice from primary care experts like pharmacists and nurses and enable direct booking of appointments for those who really need to see a GP. We are absolutely delighted that the HSJ panel have recognised the positive impact this will have on patient access and demand in primary care, by shortlisting OHL for this prestigious Award!”
As the demands on the NHS to deliver greater quality care within ever tighter budgets intensifies, the HSJ Value Awards seek to recognise and reward outstanding efficiency, improvements in patient care and reduction in variation. The ASK NHS GP app is a finalist in the Primary Care Initiative of the Year category. The winners will be announced on Thursday 23rd May at Manchester Central.
