Is this service COVID safe? – During COVID-19 this is a telephone physiotherapy service.
How is physiotherapy feasible over the phone? – Most MSK problems are quite common and easy to recognise on the phone. Typically they will also resolve without the need for referral or ‘treatment’. By asking a series of questions, the FCP will be able to guide the patient on what to do and on how long it will likely take to recover. If they need further treatment, the FCP will be able to refer them on.
Do patients need to speak to their GP first? – No, Physiotherapists in this role are trained to screen for medical conditions and have more specific experience in musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions to be able to guide you on the best course of action, usually without the need for GP input, so they can self refer via the ASK NHS App
What if patients need a Scan? – The FCP is experienced in understanding when scans are useful and appropriate, if needed they will be able to organise this for the patient by communicating with their GP.
Patients 18+ can book in through their practice or the Ask NHS App if they have muscle, bone or joint problems.
Only patients aged 14+ can book onto this service. FCP does not treat patients under the age of 14.
