NEL currently provide the Information Governance (IG) Help Desk and IG Portal for our Practice community. From September 2019, this service is expanding to incorporate the role of Data Protection Officer (DPO) for GP Practices covering Bromley, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.
The role of the DPO is defined by data protection legislation making it an obligatory requirement for organisations that process personal data. The role of the DPO is of a strategic oversight and source of data protection and information governance expertise and is a core aspect of assurance for GP Practices as they engage and collaborate with Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STP) and Primary Care Networks (PCN).
The role of the DPO has specific emphasis on being engaged with your Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) where novel or changed data processing services and systems are being constructed and this will be of particular relevance to collaborative working across PCNs. The NEL DPO service will be engaging with your Practice Manager forums and will also have assurance oversight of your annual Data Protection and Security Toolkit (DSPT).
